YPK Gives Back: Local Organizations You Can Support

Introduction

This July, instead of hosting an event during one of the busiest (and hottest!) months of the year, we’re turning our attention toward supporting the organizations that support Knoxville year-round.

We’re in a season of uncertainty for many organizations, whether that’s from USDA pauses, Amercorps funding, economic concerns, or other external forces. Our nonprofit partners have helped YPK members understand and actively engage with Knoxville’s most pressing community needs.

This month, we encourage you to give what you can to our community partners. Whether that’s financially or with your time, your devotion to these organizations could make a life-saving impact. Please consider the below organizations:

Second Harvest

Second Harvest YPK volunteer event

Second Harvest provides much needed food security to families around East Tennessee. Due to the impacts to USDA, many resources have been paused, with families in East Tennessee immediately being affected. Read more here.

Keep Knoxville Beautiful

Keep Knoxville Beautiful YPK street clean up volunteer event

Keep Knoxville Beautiful supports more than 6,000 volunteers each year to remove over 100K pounds of litter from Knox County. The organization also manages the county and city Adopt-A-Road programs and organizes planting and other community events to beautify the area.

Fish Pantries

FISH Hospitality Pantries provides groceries to over 7,000 families in the Knoxville area each month.

Battlefield Farm

BattleField Farm YPK volunteer event

BattleField Farm is an urban farm with the mission of transforming the community’s relationship to land and food in East Knoxville’s underserved communities. BattleField Farm is working to end food insecurity by partnering with community members to make fresh food accessible and to cultivate land-based sovereignty through education, workforce development, and direct relationships to land.

Beardsley Gardens

CAC Beardsley Community Farm works towards a healthier community in Knoxville by providing produce, education about growing and cooking fresh foods, and land and resources for gardening.

Emerald Youth

For more than 30 years, Emerald Youth Foundation has served 30,000+ young people in the heart of Knoxville.
