The YWCA is proud to announce Enough!, citizen volunteers supporting YWCA efforts to serve victims and end violence. This is a call to action, and we need your help in recruiting volunteers. We are committed to providing this vital work in new and innovative ways, and we see a great need for more community engagement to prevent domestic violence and related problems.

YWCA Enough! volunteers will answer phones, observe court proceedings, educate the community on the dynamics of domestic violence, and help victims create individualized safety plans, understand their rights, navigate the judicial system, apply for orders of protection, and access community resources.  Enough! volunteers can serve in the following capacities:

• Advocacy
• Childcare Assistance
• Community Education
• Court Support
• Group Workshop Facilitation
• Special Events

Interested citizens can review volunteer descriptions and should fill out a volunteer application online at www.ywcaknox.com or call (865) 523-6126 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. to speak to Teri. Volunteers will be expected to pass a mandatory screening, attend training academy, and volunteer a minimum of 12 hours per month. Men and women of all backgrounds are welcome. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply.

One in four women experience domestic violence at some point in their lives, and 74% of Americans personally know someone who has experienced domestic violence. Participants are needed for the 2nd Annual Toss for the Cross cornhole tournament to benefit the Knoxville American Red Cross. 

The event will take place on Friday, Nov. 18 at the Knoxville American Red Cross located at 6921 Middlebrook Pike.  Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the tournament will run from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. 

Registration is $50 per individual and teams must register as a pair.  Ticket costs include tournament entry, dinner and 2 drink tickets.  BBQ will be provided by Holy Smokers Too and the menu includes pork, baked beans, slaw and chips.  Drinks will include beer, liquor, lemonade, sweet tea and water. 

Live music will be played throughout the event.  Tickets are also on sale for $15 and include the meal and 2 drink tickets.  Guests are welcome to purchase drinks beyond their 2 drink tickets.  Beer will be $3 and liquor $5.

For the winning team, each individual will receive a trophy and a cornhole set.  All participants will receive coozies and door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening.

About: “Buy It for BizTown,” an event that  supports scholarships for local students to attend JA BizTown, will be held Saturday, October 8, at JA BizTown in Clinton from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  This event is presented by All Occasion Party Rentals and Git ‘n Go Markets. 

The sale will be held at JA BizTown on the Anderson County High School campus during the highest volume traffic time of the year in this area!  The Museum of Appalachia will have its annual festival, and the Clinton Antique Festival will be held that weekend as well.  Hundreds of people are expected to stop by for great deals, hot dogs, and fun on inflatables for the kids! 

There is still time for donations from the business community of any product or service you can provide for this wonderful event.  Donations will be recognized as a gift at the sale, in order to promote a company’s support of financial literacy for students in East Tennessee.
